My Evening at the American Legion

8/03/04

Hello folks,

Last night I had the honor of speaking to the American Legion in Monroe, LA. If you've been around here for long at all, you know how I feel about veterans! While I didn't know many of them personally, I was convinced that I was in the company of some of the finest people our country has ever produced. What's more--they couldn't have been more gracious to me. THANKS, Monroe!

Hugs,
Shellie

Right off the bat I ran into a friend that I'd made at a previous speaking engagment. This is me and Mrs. Smiley catchin' up.

Meeting, greeting and eating before we got started.

Right now they're tending to their official business. I'm watching and learning from the head table.

More business...

Now, this young man introduced me. Mr. Shuster and I had a pact. He said he was a novice at introducing the speakers and I admitted that I hadn't been speaking very long so we agreed not to expect too much from each other. *grin*

Yea! It's my turn. I still don't know why I'm getting to do things like this,
but boy am I having fun!

I'm in the process of finding some names to put with these faces. I had 'em in my head for a little while...I knew I should've stopped and written 'em down!

This trio would be my uncle and his fine wife, (my Papa's sister), Darryl and Pat Adkerson. Darryl and Pat run the American Legion Hall and they were responsible for getting me there, along with the group's consent. And that fellow in the middle--that's Mr. Billy Davis. He introduced himself to me as "just an old reprobate". Hmmm...like they say on Fox, I report--you decide. *grin*
(Got 'cha Mr. Billy!)

Hugs,
Shellie
